Using Video to Boost Membership
by Carmel
These days we are all looking for bargains, and we often find that joining a buying club is the way to go. Let’s take that philosophy and apply it to association membership. We have a stronger voice as a group. We can better effect change for our industry, influence decision makers, negotiate pay increases, find employment and much more as a member of an association that represents our profession.
Likewise, associations have to spend smarter than ever with our money. But they must provide an increasing level of services to meet our needs and continue to raise awareness of membership benefits. One way to do that is with a recruitment video.
This video for the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants (GAPA) accomplishes these purposes. It illustrates services provided and allows management to speak directly to potential members. The message is delivered clearly and maintains viewer interest, utilizing these key elements:
- A theme that reflects the association’s dynamics
- Short segments
- Lively content with important info, not lengthy details
- “Get to know us” factor
- A clearly defined call to action
DVDs of the recruitment video were mailed to current and potential members across the state. The video was posted on the association’s website and has been shown at seminars and conventions. The result? GAPA increased both awareness and membership, and was recognized with a top award from its parent association, the American Academy of Physician Assistants. The AAPA awarded a first place Public Education Achievement award to GAPA for the video and related recruitment campaign. The award furthered the cause of the video, helping to raise awareness of GAPA’s mission and accomplishments to medical professionals across the nation.
What a bargain.
