Summer Issue of Making a Difference Inspires and Informs

Making a Difference, Summer 2010 edition

The Summer edition of Making a Difference, a quarterly publication of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD), has just wrapped up. In addition to it’s stellar design (hey, a designer should be able to toot their own horn) the magazine is full of inspiring articles and information.

The summer edition features the Children’s Freedom Initiative, which aims to move children with disabilities under the age of 22 out of state-run facilities and closer to home. The initiative was formed in 2005 after advocates with the Georgia Advocacy Office (GAO) discovered 141 children under the age of 22 living in state-run facilities and other nursing facilities. Mathew Harp, featured on the cover with his mom and sisters, gives an inspiring message about what it meant to him to return home after having to live in a nursing home when he was 21. (more…)

Spring Issue of Making a Difference Features 12th Annual Disability Day

spring cover of Making a Difference magazine

We’ve just finished the latest issue of Making a Difference magazine, a quarterly publication of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD). O’Neill Communications handled the editorial content, cartoon illustration, and overall design of the publication.

The spring 2010 edition features the 12th Annual Disability Day 2010 in Atlanta. Advocates from across the state came together on February 25 to let the Georgia government know that they are ready…ready for the waiting lists to be cleared; ready for legislation to be passed for more readily available accessible housing options; ready for employers to recognize the value that employees with disabilities bring to the workplace…ready for change. Bowser = Marketing Genius

In honor of it being close to the weekend, I’m going to go with a fun post:

Do you know about Bowser, the Miniature Schnauzer?

Meet Bowser.

Bowser came into my life when he was seven weeks old. I was fresh out of college, adjusting to living on my own and the 40-hour workweek. He fit in the palm of my hand and looked more like a rat than a puppy.

Anyway, I was looking at Bowser the other night (he’s now almost three years old and gets fatter every day), and I was thinking that Bowser knows the secrets to all anyone really needs to know about marketing. After the jump, allow me to explain. (more…)

Challenge Yourself with Some Professional Resolutions.

Confession time! How many of you make New Year’s resolutions? Guilty – I make them every year. And no, I’m not the jerk who buys a gym membership on January 1 only to crowd the gym along with all the other wannabes for a few weeks and then never shows my face in there again. I’m the realistic type who aims to conquer simple things like learning to keep a plant alive for longer than a month, keeping my home office organized, and learning to bake (mainly so I can be included in the holiday cookie exchanges at work again – you mess up no-bake cookies two years in a row and they show you the door around here).
